Welcome to The 4th Annual Gullah Geechee Herbal Gathering

Join Us

We are so excited to announce that the 4th annual Gullah Geechee Herbal Gathering, a herbal conference for Black and Indigenous herbalists and community will be taking place on October 6-8, 2023 on picturesque John's Island, SC.

This herbal conference is not a Gullah Geechee festival, but instead, it is a weekend filled with informative workshops that span Gullah Geechee culture, herbal and holistic health practices and other useful topics from amazing teachers of Gullah Geechee heritage and from around the Diaspora. It also features an opening ceremony with Libations and live African drumming, an African Marketplace that highlights small black businesses from around the country, camping on Gullah Geechee owned land, wonderful activities, phenomenal food, children's activities and an opportunity to network and share with like minded individuals from around the country.

The Gullah Geechee Herbal Gathering is a family-focused, un-apologetically Black Centered event and we welcome all Black, Indigenous, and Gullah Geechee Herbalists, Farmers, Healers, Body Workers, Hoodoo Practitioners and community to join us. We want attendees to get grounded in their herbal practice through education, fellowship, community and nature. This conference not only seeks to educate but to advocate for the conservation and preservation of the Gullah Geechee herbal culture, but the bioregional ecology as well.

We’ve worked hard in order to put together an unforgettable event for our attendees. Explore the site for all the information you need, and let us know if you have any questions. We look forward to you joining us in the beautiful Lowcountry of South Carolina.

This is the first year that we are featuring keynote speakers and we have two dynamic sistas that will be delivering Keynotes this year.

Lucretia Vandyke, is the author of " African American Herbalism: A Practical Guide to Healing Plants and Folk Traditions." She is also a holistic educator, Herbalist, Sacred Sexoligist, and more.

THE THEME FOR THE 4TH ANNUAL GULLAH GEECHEE HERBAL GATHERING

We are so happy to be bringing this conference back again next year. It's not a small undertaking and we are excited about this conference's growth. We recognize the need for spaces like this that are intentionally centered on Black people, a safe haven where they can let their hair down and be themselves. This is why we have chosen the theme of Elevation for the conference. We want to amplify and elevate not only the herbal and cultural knowledge of our cultures around the Diaspora, but we also want to elevate our communities with this knowledge so that we can elevate our collective well-being as well.

Our featured herb for the 2023 Gullah Geechee Herbal Gathering is Lemon Balm, I chose this herb because it is not only calming, but it's rejuvenating as well. I believe that in order for us to elevate, we have to be restored and rejuvenated. It is my intention every year, that everyone in attendance leaves this conference rejuvenated. May we all tap into the energy and the power of Lemon Balm as we depart the 2023 Gullah Geechee Herbal Gathering.
